Hotel Review: Hyatt Regency London Blackfriars

In the past month, I had the opportunity to stay twice at the newly opened Hyatt Regency London Blackfriars hotel. The hotel is centrally located, directly across from the Blackfriars station  and about a 10-15 minute walk to both Bank and Covent Garden. Also across the street is the historic Blackfriars pub.

Like most things in London, neighborhood names often have some history associated with them. In this case the word Blackfriars refers to the Dominican preachers habit that was black in color. See this link for more.

Since I stayed here twice, I will write this as a composite review across the two stays. The first was for 5 nights and the second was for six nights. I was traveling on business so the location was key for me. I found this to be a good spot because its an easy walk to Bank and the financial district but in the evenings its also a short walk to Covent Garden where you have many more options to eat at night. This is primarily why I chose this hotel.

Rooms

The rooms are very spacious for London, larger than the nearby Andaz Liverpool Street. Being a new hotel, the interiors are in excellent condition with very little visible wear and tear. The bed was comfortable and had both usb-a and usb-c outlets on both sides. A nice touch was the availability of a seating area in both rooms.

The showers were excellent with good water pressure. Standard amenities like a bath robe, slippers and basic grooming items were provided.

Breakfast

The breakfast spread was excellent with a good selection of eggs (scrambled and fried), sausage, bacon, baked beans, hashbrowns, cold cuts, smoked fish, fruits and a decent bakery selection. The only critique was that the buffet is identical every day.
